...Cause We Don't Have Enough Knock-Down, Drag-Out, Full-Contact Gladitorial Database Discussions Anymore

Fabian Pascal responds to an article on Slashdot about XML and Relational Databases. Slashdot discussion and feedback on it is especially entertaining. More kind words from Fabian add to the verbal melee.

What a rambling bunch of idiots...

I still would like to know (wheteher or not SQL intinsically fits well with the relational model) what good/advatnages XML has over SQL.

What is it they say...it may not be perfect, but it's the best game in town?

Or was that about the american legal system?

I generally agree with Pascal. He's certainly right that a lot of DBA's and other professional in the industry lack some serious knowledge about data fundamentals.
As a mathematically educated person I really see the value of a sound theory as the foundation of a DBMS (i.e. relational theory) instead of the ad hoc approach of XML.

And of course: SQL sucks really, really hard
