Quick Mozilla Firefox question
I use Firefox as my primary web browser on Windows. I have problems on my work computer (not on my gaming computer, or my server, just my work computer) (yes, I have it installed on all three) with the Copy functionality not working. Yup, that's right, hitting Ctrl-C doesn't work sometimes to copy, either from stuff I'm typing in or from the address bar. Just happens in Firefox, other applications are fine.
Anybody else with this problem or is it just time for me to reinstall my work computer's OS?

re: Quick Mozilla Firefox question I had a problem with <ctrl><shift>-a within Firefox. Turns out another application (Trillian) was intercepting the keystroke. Probably not that helpful, but maybe it'll give you an idea of where to start looking... |

re: Quick Mozilla Firefox question I have that same problem as well on occasion. Reselecting the text and hitting control-c usually does the trick, but I was never sure if the problem was really there or if my brain was just tricking me... |

I've seen too many instances where performancewise, it just can't keep up with IE rendering simple things like large web pages, or even intensive graphics, and performance is generally what they try to brag on. |

re: Quick Mozilla Firefox question You tripped over a raw nerve. This gets a little harsh, sorry, it's been a long day. OK, I'll give IE performance. I'll give it 10 times the performance even. Performance is a very small matter. "Oh No! It took .5 seconds to load that web page instead of .05 seconds! I've wasted .45 seconds!" So, why does it perform better? Mostly because it's integrated into the operating system. Internet Explorer's great feature is that it's integrated into the operating system! Yeah, that way when it gets infected by something THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS INFECTED. Oh, and when I get an update for it, since it's part of the operating system, guess what! I get to reboot again! I don't run spybot. I don't run ad-aware. I don't even run a VIRUS SCANNER. Why? Because I don't run the horrible virus portal we all know and hate, called Internet Explorer. Not running those things saves me several minutes a week of fetching updates and running software. There's your time savings back, with interest. Any super-critical, must be applied now patch to my web browser on my production SQL Server is critical because the web browser is the operating system. I don't have an option to uninstall it. I can't get rid of it. It's part of the operating system. A very stupid design decision to make my SQL Server reliant on a piece of client software. If somehow Firefox were to get infected by something, I could simply delete the directory it's installed in and reinstall. If IE gets hosed, I dump the directory and reinstall, except that it's installed in the WINDOWS directory, so I get to reinstall the whole OS! Great time saver that is. The only things I use Internet Explorer for are downloading Firefox on a new computer and Windows Update. If there was a way to do either of those things without resorting to a command-line FTP client or a total hack I'd do it. BTW, here's another odd symptom I noticed. I was playing WoW on my work computer (I love my job) and noticed that if I was holding down the W key (to walk forward, and yes, I know about auto-walk) and then pressed another key, I'd stop moving forward. Very strange. |

re: Quick Mozilla Firefox question I am not sure if it's the issue if it usually works, but there could be an extension overriding it. I have osme extension overriding undo close tab keystroke, so I have to undo using the menu now :( |

re: Quick Mozilla Firefox question FF performs better than IE by all parameters that matter to me, except maybe for the loading time. And I usually have to load it only once a day (thanks to the tabs). Regarding ctrl-c I suggest you leave a feedback at http://hendrix.mozilla.org/. |
